Mollison Street, Abbotsford
Location: Abbotsford
Completion: TBA
Permaculture principles have been a key element in designing this commercial development in Abbotsford. The industrial area was a key factor in the design brief which has now created a building that in keeps visually but goes well beyond its years in terms of practical and sustainable usage. A holistic approach to the design has allowed it to benefit end users directly.
The ethical principles of permaculture played a vital role in the concept design. Principles of sustainability were implement by featuring a rooftop garden with a veggie patch and a chicken coop. Included in the design is a child care facility, for employees and those who work nearby, to have a shorter commute to work by dropping their child off at their workplace. This gives parents the opportunity to spend more time with their children by having lunch time together. Lunchtime will also be turned on its head by the building’s dog minding service. The plans also feature retail space, a café and gallery. A multimedia theatre and levels 2 and 3 have a creative hub included on the plans for potential co-working group.
